My connection to Montana agriculture comes from my current career choice. Growing up I was involved in livestock production with the 4-H and the Future Farmers of America organizations. When I was in high school, I joined an agronomy judging team which piqued my interest for the crops side of agriculture.
However, it wasn’t until I started a job as a ninety-day intern in 2022 for the Montana State University Northwestern Agriculture Research center (Kalispell, Montana) that this passion really grew. While in Kalispell I worked for the Agronomy team – we mainly focused on wheat and barley quality and yield. Occasionally I would also work with some specialty trials that included fertilizer rates and irrigation. After multiple years of returning as an intern, one of my coworkers suggested that I continue college since I had a natural talent in this line of work. From there I decided to return to school and I became a student research assistant in Kalispell. Unfortunately, once I graduated with my Associates of Science this was the end for my time assisting in Kalispell.
Luckily this was the start of my journey to do the same work for the MSU Northern Agriculture Research Center in Havre, Montana as a Research Assistant (March 2025). With this move to Havre, I decided to enroll at Montana State University Northern in order to pursue a Bachelors in Agriculture Operations Technology. However, this time around I would like to graduate sooner. For my associates it took six years in order to complete. This is due to the fact that I have had to fund all of my schooling on my own. Which limited me to only a few courses at a time and working two jobs in the summer in order to fund my education. As time persists so will I in my agriculture studies.
The Montana Grain Growers Association is dedicated to growing tomorrow’s agricultural leaders.
As a board, we feel charged to support the next generation of Montanans by offering post-secondary education scholarships. Over time, we plan to grow the quantity and quality of the program.
Over the years, we have realized scholarships are needed for more than traditional college but for trades too!
From fundraising and industry partner pledges, we are pleased to offer three levels of scholarships: $500, $1000, and $5000 per student.
We look forward to receiving applications from future agricultural leaders and the next generation of Montanans.
