WORKING FOR YOU

Each month we provide some key areas where MGGA leaders and staff have been working on your behalf. Here is a sampling of important issues and activities for July 2026:

  • Interim EVP Severson attended MSU MAES Field Days at the Western Triangle Agricultural Research Center in Conrad and the Central Agricultural Research Center in Moccasin, connecting with growers, researchers and industry partners and learning more about research underway for Montana producers.
  • Vice President Flikkema represented MGGA at the MAES Advisory Council Summer Meeting in Corvallis, helping ensure Montana grain growers have a voice as research priorities are discussed.
  • President Sheffels participated in the Great Falls stop of the 4th Annual For the Farmers Tour, which included a visit to the Sheffels farm. Interim EVP Shawna Severson joined the tour in Conrad, helping celebrate and connect with the farmers, ranchers and families who keep Montana agriculture moving forward.
  • Past President Lohr traveled to Washington, D.C. as a member of the Commodity Classic Affiliate Council and NAWG’s Operations & Planning Committee, representing Montana growers in national discussions and planning.
  • Senior Policy Advisor Birkeland sent letters to members of Congress thanking them for their work on key agricultural priorities, including farm aid, Farm Bill efforts and H-2A reform, while reinforcing MGGA’s interest in continuing to work together on issues important to Montana grain growers.
  • MGGA continued working on agricultural labor and H-2A reform, participating in Ag Labor Coalition discussions and reviewing proposed legislation to ensure Montana growers’ needs and MGGA’s member-adopted policy remain part of the conversation.
  • Riley Slivka with AgriStudios visited Secretary Schock’s farm in Vida, MT to capture a firsthand look at Montana grain production. Stay tuned for the video coming soon!
  • Planning continued for Convention, including work on the Dugdale Ag Business Academy, Antique Farm Show involvement, the Bread Baking Competition and finalizing the speaker lineup. Be on the lookout for more Convention details in the coming months!
